Dear Peabody Parents and Friends,

On February 1, we received official notification that Peabody Charter was chosen for California Distinguished School, one of only FOUR elementary schools in the entire county of Santa Barbara! After a rigorous and thorough application process, the California Department of Education recognized our school for its excellent academic achievement, superior test scores, extraordinary special programs and activities, and a strong sense of well-being and self esteem throughout the school. The outstanding dedication, talents, and experience of our teachers and staff make the PEABODY EXPERIENCE very special indeed. But we are in trouble.

This recession has hit local families, businesses, and schools really hard, and that includes Peabody Charter School. California’s deficit translates to the school’s deficit, and next year the deficit is going to be BIG. This means possibly $300,000 LESS STATE REVENUE for 2010-2011, and that will mean $300,000 in cuts. This year we already made significant cuts, and next year there will be more. At a minimum, it could mean:

  • Reduction in P.E. classes and staff
  • Cutting specials programs (art, music, drama, science, library, technology)
  • Larger class sizes and fewer teachers
  • Fewer instructional assistants to help in the classroom and on the playground

We simply cannot—and won’t– let this happen. Our exceptional educational program cannot continue without your support, and we must call upon each of you to help PRESERVE THE PEABODY EXPERIENCE. Our goal is to raise $200,000—or $30,000 per grade level–for the 2010-2011 school year so that we can preserve as many of our programs as possible. That’s why we are writing to you now.  We’re looking for 100% participation. Remember, when you give, every Peabody student benefits.

Donating to PRESERVE THE PEABODY EXPERIENCE is easy and manageable. Using PayPal, you can make one time payments OR have the option to give monthly.  Just $83 per month (the cost of having a Starbucks coffee every day) becomes a $1000 donation in a year! Of course, we accept cash and checks too.

Estimadas Familias y Amigos de Peabody,

El 1 de febrero recibimos notificación oficial de que Peabody Charter había sido elegida Escuela Distinguida de California, una de sólo CUATRO escuelas primarias en todo el condado de Santa Bárbara.  Después de un proceso de solicitud riguroso y completo, el Departamento de Educación de California reconoció a nuestra escuela por su excelente rendimiento académico, resultados superiores en los exámenes, programas y actividades extraordinarios especiales y un fuerte sentido de bienestar y auto estimación por toda la escuela.  La destacada dedicación, y los talentos y experiencia de nuestros maestros y personal hacen que la EXPERIENCIA DE PEABODY sea realmente muy especial. Pero tenemos problemas.

Esta recesión ha afectado fuertemente a familias, negocios y escuelas locales, incluyendo a Peabody Charter School. El déficit de California se traduce en déficit de la escuela, y el año que viene el déficit va a ser GRANDE. Esto significa posiblemente $300,000 MENOS EN FONDOS DEL ESTADO para 2010-2011, y eso significará $300,000 en recortes. Este año ya hemos hecho recortes importantes y el año que viene habrá más. Como mínimo podría significar:

  • Reducción en clases y personal de E.F.
  • Recorte de programas especiales (arte, música, drama, ciencias, biblioteca, tecnología)
  • Clases más grandes y menos maestros
  • Menos ayudantes de maestros para ayudar en la clase y en el patio

Simplemente, no podemos—y no dejaremos – que pase. Nuestro excepcional programa educativo no puede seguir sin su apoyo, y tenemos que contar con todos ustedes para ayudar a PRESERVAR LA EXPERIENCIA DE PEABODY. Nuestra meta es recaudar $200,000—ó $30,000 por grado—para el año escolar 2010-2011 para poder preservar tantos programas como sea posible. Por esa razón les escribimos ahora.
